Switching apps costs time: exporting data, relearning menus, and re-enabling notifications. A short comparison checklist prevents impulsive installs.
Compare on substance
- Core job — does the new app actually solve the problem better?
- Account & export — can you leave later with your data?
- Permissions — is the new app asking for more access than the old one?
- Pricing — free tier limits, subscriptions, and one-time purchases.
- Offline behavior — does it work on a plane or weak connection?
Try before you delete
Install the alternative, use both for a few days, and only then remove the old app. Keep recovery options (password manager entry, export file) until you are sure.
