Updates fix security issues and bugs, but they can also change permissions, interfaces, or subscription prompts. A light review habit prevents surprises.
Where to update
Use Google Play’s Manage apps & device page (or your manufacturer store if that is how the app was installed). Avoid “update helpers” from unknown sites that ask to install unknown apps.
Before large updates
- Check the Play listing’s recent changelog when available.
- Confirm you are on Wi‑Fi for large downloads.
- For banking or work apps, update when you have time to sign in again if the app requires it.
Auto-update settings
Play Store → profile → Settings → Network preferences → Auto-update apps. Many people prefer Over Wi‑Fi only. You can also turn auto-update off for individual apps on the app’s Play page menu.
